Continental Chef

About the role

A full-time Chef is needed in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to prepare and cook a wide range of continental and international dishes and to run the kitchen to a high standard. The role covers menu planning, food quality, kitchen supervision and coordination with service staff.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and cook continental dishes such as pasta, steaks, grilled meals, roasted meats, seafood, salads and soups, and develop new dishes and menu improvements.
• Plan daily menus in line with establishment standards and customer preferences, using approved recipes, portion sizes and presentation standards.
• Monitor ingredient quality, freshness and storage, and ensure food safety, handling and storage procedures are followed.
• Maintain high kitchen cleanliness, sanitation and personal hygiene standards.
• Supervise kitchen assistants, coordinate with other kitchen staff and service staff, and accommodate special dietary requirements.
• Monitor food inventory, assist with stocktaking, report shortages to management and help with food costing and portion control.
• Keep kitchen equipment in good condition, report faults and food safety concerns, and work efficiently during busy service periods.

Required profile

• SSCE or relevant professional training in Culinary Arts, Catering or Hospitality Management.
• Proven experience as a Continental Chef or in a similar professional kitchen role.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts, weekends and public holidays when required.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of continental and international cuisines, cooking techniques and food presentation.
• Food safety, kitchen sanitation and food storage procedures.
• Portion control, ingredient measurement and food costing.
• Ability to work under pressure, strong organization, teamwork and time-management skills.
• Culinary certification or relevant hospitality training is an added advantage.
