Commercial Manager

About the role

The Commercial Manager will lead the commercial side of design‑and‑build projects for CDL in Lagos. Reporting to the Project Director and Managing Director, you will safeguard the company’s contractual rights while driving profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Administer the Design and Build contract, issue and manage variations, and protect CDL’s contractual rights.
• Own the project budget and cost‑to‑complete forecast; update and present monthly commercial reports.
• Prepare subcontract packages, manage tendering, recommend awards, and administer claims and variations.
• Review and approve subcontractor payment applications in coordination with the Senior Quantity Surveyor.
• Maintain the project variation register, ensuring all variations are valued, agreed and instructed before work commences.
• Forecast cash flow, issue client payment applications on time and at correct values.
• Lead the final account process with the client and all subcontractors.
• Provide commercial advice on contract, procurement and risk matters.
• Produce monthly commercial reports for senior management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
• Membership of NIQS or RICS preferred.
• Minimum 14 years of commercial experience in construction, including at least 5 years as a Commercial Manager on major Nigerian projects.
• Strong knowledge of Nigerian construction contract law and standard forms of contract.
• Proven experience administering Design and Build contracts and managing multi‑package subcontract programmes.
