Collections Specialist

About the role

FairMoney is a mobile banking institution focused on credit for emerging markets, operating mainly in Nigeria. It is looking for a Collections Specialist to follow up on outstanding payments, monitor non-performing loans and work with delinquent borrowers to set up effective repayment arrangements.

Key responsibilities

• Plan a course of action to recover outstanding payments
• Follow up with customers on all outstanding payments and identify problematic accounts
• Ensure non-performing loans are followed up and monitored diligently
• Communicate with delinquent borrowers and develop effective payment plans with them
• Listen actively to customers and keep conversations collection-driven
• Advise customers on their payment options and best methods of payment
• Document information from conversations properly
• Negotiate payoff deadlines or payment plans
• Create trust relationships with debtors where possible to avoid future issues

Required profile

• At least 1 year of experience in microfinance, banking or fintech operations dealing with delinquent clients and problem-solving situations
• Aptitude for negotiation and persuasion
• Good knowledge of the collection process and approach
• Excellent collaboration and teamwork skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Comfortable in an outbound debt collections, outbound sales or outbound customer service environment

Required skills

• Working knowledge of a collections system (advantageous)
• Microsoft Office / Google Workspace
