Clearing and Forwarding Officer

About the role

The Clearing and Forwarding Officer will coordinate the movement of imported and exported goods through ports, airports and other entry points, ensuring compliance with customs regulations and timely delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate clearing and forwarding of goods, preparing and processing shipping documents such as bills of lading, invoices and certificates of origin.
• Liaise with customs officials, shipping companies, freight forwarders, terminal operators and transporters to manage declarations and clearance procedures.
• Monitor shipments from dispatch to delivery, provide status updates and resolve delays or documentation errors.
• Ensure all permits, licences and supporting documents are in place before cargo clearance.
• Follow up on customs duties, taxes, terminal charges and other clearance‑related payments.
• Arrange cargo collection, transportation and delivery to designated locations.
• Maintain accurate records of shipments, customs documentation, payments and delivery confirmations.
• Verify freight invoices and logistics charges for accuracy.
• Prepare regular reports on shipment status, clearance costs and operational activities.

Required profile

• Minimum HND in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Transport Management, Business Administration, International Trade or related field.
• Proven experience in clearing and forwarding, freight forwarding, shipping or logistics operations.
• Good understanding of import/export procedures and Nigerian customs regulations.
• Strong documentation, record‑keeping and organizational abilities.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and problem‑solving skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience with shipment tracking or logistics management systems.
