Chief Finance Officer (CFO)

About the role

A well-funded, VC-backed internet company with offices in Lagos, London, New York and Johannesburg is looking for a Chief Finance Officer based in Lagos. The CFO prepares management reports, cost analysis, budgets and forecasts, and ensures timely financial information reaches management, the Board and external parties such as investors, regulators and tax offices.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and enforce a monthly management reporting pack, including variance analysis of actual versus budgeted expenditure across the group's reporting divisions
• Implement a new budget reporting system and help the COO prepare Board reports, forecasts and performance management reporting
• Evaluate and advise department heads on the impact of long-range planning and new projects, and provide budget, KPI and management report analysis to the CEO, COO and Board
• Improve the budgeting process by educating department managers on the financial issues affecting their budgets
• Work with the COO to secure new venture capital when needed and give strategic financial input on new projects and ventures
• Enhance cash flow projections and reporting, including a minimum cash threshold for operations
• Monitor costs and credit control, and assist in external audit and tax processes with auditors and tax consultants

Required profile

• Master's level education in Finance or Accounting
• Qualified member of an accountancy body or equivalent (ICAN/ACCA)
• 5-7 years in a senior managerial finance role, with experience in cost control, budgeting, variance analysis, KPI reporting and long-term strategic planning
• Experience advising finance across departments in a complex, multi-objective organisation
• Knowledge of African tech/media industries is an added advantage
