Chief Engineer

About the role

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, repair and improvement of all hotel facilities, building systems and equipment at Hyatt Regency Lagos Ikeja, which is expected to open by the end of 2026. The role keeps the hotel safe, efficient and comfortable for guests and colleagues while upholding Hyatt brand standards, regulatory compliance, sustainability initiatives and budgetary objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and manage all engineering and maintenance activities, ensuring MEP, HVAC, kitchen, laundry and life-safety systems run efficiently
• Develop preventive and predictive maintenance programmes and resolve maintenance requests and breakdowns promptly
• Inspect guest rooms, public areas and back-of-house facilities regularly
• Ensure compliance with Hyatt standards and local regulations, keep fire and life-safety systems operational, lead safety inspections, risk assessments and emergency preparedness, and act as a member of the emergency response team
• Prepare and manage the Engineering Department budget, monitor utility consumption, control maintenance costs and manage capital expenditure projects and renovations
• Recruit, train and coach engineering staff, conduct performance evaluations, plan succession and ensure adequate staffing and scheduling
• Lead renovation and refurbishment projects, coordinate with contractors, consultants and suppliers, and track timelines, quality and costs
• Drive sustainability initiatives, monitor water, electricity and fuel use, and implement energy conservation and waste management programmes

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or HND in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering or a related field
• Minimum 8-10 years of engineering experience in hospitality, commercial facilities or large-scale property management
• Minimum 3-5 years in a leadership role within a luxury hotel; pre-opening experience is an added advantage
