Business Development Manager

About the role

The Business Development Manager will lead the acquisition of new loan customers across public sector employees, SMEs and tertiary institution staff. Based in Abuja, this full‑time, on‑site role focuses on expanding MCO Penny’s micro‑lending portfolio through strategic sales initiatives and strong client relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and pursue new business opportunities within government ministries, agencies, public institutions and the SME ecosystem.
• Develop and execute sales strategies to market loan products to civil servants and other target segments.
• Conduct market research, generate leads, manage a robust pipeline from prospecting to deal closure.
• Prepare proposals, negotiate terms within company guidelines, and ensure timely follow‑up.
• Collaborate with internal teams to align lending products with client needs.
• Track performance metrics, prepare regular management reports, and represent the company at events and meetings.
• Promote the MCO Penny brand in the local market and maintain strong client relationships.

Required profile

• Proven business development, sales and client relationship management experience with a record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets.
• Experience in financial services, micro‑lending or banking with solid understanding of credit, loan products and risk awareness.
• Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation abilities.
• Strong organizational, time‑management and problem‑solving skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Marketing or a related field; professional certifications are a plus.
• Demonstrated experience working in Abuja or similar markets and familiarity with the local SME ecosystem.
• High integrity, customer focus and commitment to financial inclusion and responsible lending.
