Biostatistics Associate (Volunteer, Remote)

About the role

LunaVax Institute Nigeria, a research and implementation organization focused on measles and rubella immunization, is looking for a Biostatistics Associate to support statistical analyses across its research portfolio. The role works closely with the Vaccine Research & Biostatistics Fellow and covers health data analysis, trial planning, implementation research and scientific writing. It is a volunteer, fully remote position with a time commitment of about 5 to 8 hours per week for at least six months.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Fellow with statistical analyses across the research portfolio
• Clean, manage and analyze national survey and routine health data (NDHS, MICS, DHIS2)
• Review data quality, missing data and analytical assumptions before analysis
• Support descriptive and inferential analyses for the zero-dose and measles-rubella coverage study, including complex survey designs
• Assist with sample size calculations, power analyses and statistical analysis plans for the pilot and planned Phase III study
• Support analysis of implementation outcomes and the MIRF readiness index
• Produce tables, figures and maps and communicate findings for manuscripts, reports and funding applications
• Maintain reproducible analytical records (code, documentation, version control where applicable)
• Contribute to literature reviews and the methods and results sections of manuscripts

Required profile

• Degree in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, data science or public health (completed or in progress, including postgraduate students)
• Ability to commit 5 to 8 hours per week for at least six months
• Commitment to confidentiality, responsible data handling and reproducible research

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least one statistical package (R, Stata, SAS, SPSS or Python)
• Understanding of descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing and regression
• Desirable: complex survey data analysis, DHIS2, sample size/power calculations, multilevel models, GIS mapping, reproducible workflows (R Markdown, Quarto, Git), and peer-reviewed publications
