Associate Relationship Manager – SME Banking

About the role

The Associate Relationship Manager will support Standard Chartered's SME client portfolio in Lagos, driving revenue growth through proactive relationship management. The role combines data‑informed insights with tailored financial solutions across trade finance, deposits and business banking products.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and deepen an existing SME portfolio, increasing annual revenues above USD 500 per client while maintaining high retention rates.
• Identify and sell appropriate SME products using a consultative approach, targeting cash‑rich sectors such as Trade, Maritime, Oil & Gas, IT and NGOs.
• Collaborate with Trade Operations and Treasury teams to deliver seamless end‑to‑end trade transaction services.
• Execute client onboarding, complete CDD documentation, and ensure ongoing compliance with AML, sanctions and FATCA requirements.
• Monitor portfolio performance, report risk indicators and client satisfaction metrics, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Solid background in banking with specific experience in SME business banking and AML/compliance frameworks.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective client relationship building and cross‑functional collaboration.
• Ability to interpret financial information, assess risk and implement appropriate controls.
• Flexibility to adapt to market complexities and readiness for ongoing capability assessments.
• Relevant certifications and completion of Standard Chartered e‑assessments as required.
