Assistant Technical Officer – Nutrition (CMAM)

About the role

The Assistant Technical Officer, Nutrition – CMAM will support the treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in Northeast Nigeria. Working under the Technical Officer, Health and Nutrition, the role focuses on community outreach, therapeutic feeding, and capacity building of CMAM assistants to address the growing humanitarian crisis.

Key responsibilities

• Lead community outreach and conduct MUAC screening for children under‑5.
• Provide Outpatient Therapeutic Programme (OTP) services in target communities and IDP camps.
• Trace defaulters, conduct follow‑up visits, and deliver key nutrition messages.
• Identify complications, non‑responders, and coordinate referrals to the Stabilization Centre.
• Develop and monitor CMAM workplans, produce admission and mortality trends, and support M&E assessments.
• Ensure accurate documentation of services and monitor OTP performance indicators.
• Support effective management of SAM children with complications at the Stabilization Centre.

Required profile

• Experience in community nutrition and SAM treatment.
• Familiarity with CMAM protocols and humanitarian settings.
• Ability to conduct health and nutrition counseling and capacity‑building activities.

Required skills

• Mid‑Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) screening.
• Therapeutic feeding protocols for SAM.
• Community outreach and nutrition education.
