Accountant – Payroll & Tax Specialist

About the role

We are looking for a detail‑oriented Accountant to manage payroll, tax compliance and financial records for AfriVA Hub in Ibadan. The role will ensure accurate processing of employee compensation and support the finance team with reporting and analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and process monthly payroll for all staff, generate payslips and manage deductions (PAYE, pensions, loans, benefits).
• Calculate, file and remit statutory obligations including PAYE, VAT, WHT, ITF, NSITF and pension contributions, maintaining a compliance calendar.
• Maintain up‑to‑date financial records, classify transactions and perform monthly bank reconciliations with supporting documentation.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports, expense tracking and budget monitoring.
• Support vendor payments, organise financial documentation and uphold confidentiality of employee data.
• Identify and flag discrepancies or unusual transactions early and suggest process improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of accounting experience with a focus on payroll and tax compliance.
• Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax laws and statutory filing requirements.
• Experience handling payroll for at least 10 employees.
• ICAN qualification (in progress or completed) is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software such as Zoho Books or QuickBooks.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for reconciliations and reporting.
• Ability to manage payroll calculations and statutory filings accurately.
