National Consultant – Policy & Landscape Analysis for Maternal Nutrition

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a senior national consultant to lead a policy and programme landscape analysis for the Breastmilk Enrichment Programme (BEP) focused on maternal nutrition in Nigeria. The assignment is home‑based for 4.4 months, reporting to the Nutrition Manager (Diets and Practices) and collaborating with the WFP maternal nutrition focal point.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct a comprehensive review of existing nutrition policies and programmes related to maternal nutrition and BEP.
• Analyse the current programme management and service delivery mechanisms for supplements and BEP.
• Prepare evidence‑based recommendations to strengthen policy and implementation frameworks.
• Coordinate with UNICEF, WFP and relevant government stakeholders throughout the assignment.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Nutrition Epidemiology, Public Health Nutrition, Biostatistics, Health Promotion, Global Health, Health Policy, Food Policy or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience working on maternal and child nutrition policy and programming.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of a local Nigerian language is an asset.
• Availability to work from Nigeria and travel to office or field sites as needed.

Required skills

• Excellent knowledge of nutrition, food security and health systems in Nigeria.
• Experience conducting nutrition or food‑security surveys and assessments.
• Proven ability to develop guidelines and plans in partnership with government bodies.
• Strong data analysis and interpretation skills for policy decision‑making.
• Effective interpersonal, communication and presentation abilities.
