Legal Manager

About the role

Duplo is a Lagos-based fintech startup that helps African businesses automate spend management, simplify cross-border payments and control finances on one platform. It is backed by investors such as Tribe Capital, YCombinator and others. As Legal Manager you will take a significant part in building a product that will impact millions, with the responsibility and resources to shape its legal foundation.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, financial regulations and licensing requirements in Nigeria and other target markets.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, agreements and legal documents, including customer agreements, partnership and vendor contracts and NDAs.
• Maintain corporate records, oversee company secretarial duties and ensure compliance with corporate governance best practices.
• Identify, assess and mitigate legal risks related to operations, commercial transactions and regulatory developments.
• Manage potential legal disputes, liaise with external counsel and represent Duplo in legal proceedings when necessary.
• Build relationships with regulatory bodies and legal authorities.
• Protect IP assets, oversee data privacy policies and ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
• Support expansion into new markets, including entity formation, licensing and compliance frameworks.

Required profile

• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in the fintech industry.
• Bachelor's degree in law (LLB, BL) from a recognised institution and a valid Nigerian law licence.
• High degree of professional ethics and integrity.
