Legal and Compliance Officer

About the role

PayZeep is seeking a motivated Legal & Compliance Officer to support its legal, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, risk management and financial crime compliance functions. The role works closely with the Legal & Compliance Manager and cross‑functional teams to ensure adherence to laws, regulations and internal policies in a fast‑moving fintech environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation and continuous improvement of legal, regulatory compliance and corporate governance frameworks.
• Provide day‑to‑day legal and compliance advice to business units, reviewing contracts, policies and legal documents.
• Monitor regulatory developments, prepare regulatory filings and maintain licences, statutory registers and corporate records.
• Conduct compliance monitoring, testing, risk assessments and assist in internal and external audits.
• Implement and monitor AML, CTF, KYC, sanctions screening and financial crime controls, including reviewing alerts and filing Suspicious Transaction Reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from a recognised institution and called to the Nigerian Bar.
• 3‑5 years of experience in legal, compliance, regulatory affairs or risk management within fintech, banking or other regulated sectors.
• Working knowledge of financial services regulations, AML/CFT, KYC, data‑privacy and corporate governance principles.
• Strong legal drafting, contract review and document management skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication abilities.
