Legal and Compliance Officer

About the role

PayZeep is seeking a motivated Legal & Compliance Officer to support legal, regulatory, corporate governance and risk management activities within a fast‑moving fintech environment. The role works closely with the Legal & Compliance Manager and cross‑functional teams to ensure adherence to laws, regulations and internal policies.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation and continuous improvement of legal, regulatory compliance and corporate governance frameworks.
• Provide day‑to‑day legal and compliance advice to business units, ensuring alignment with applicable laws and internal policies.
• Monitor regulatory developments, prepare and submit regulatory filings, statutory reports and correspondence with authorities.
• Review contracts, agreements and policies, recommending mitigations for legal and regulatory risks.
• Assist in AML/CFT, KYC, sanctions screening and financial crime compliance controls, including transaction monitoring and suspicious transaction reporting.
• Conduct compliance monitoring, testing, risk assessments and support internal/external audits.

Required profile

• LL.B. degree from a recognized institution and called to the Nigerian Bar.
• 3‑5 years of experience in legal, compliance, regulatory affairs or risk management within fintech, banking or other regulated sectors.
• Working knowledge of financial services regulations, AML/CFT requirements, KYC obligations and corporate governance principles.
• Strong legal drafting, document review and contract management abilities.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
