About the role
The Legal and Compliance Manager will lead Alaro City’s legal function and ensure compliance across its extensive real‑estate, infrastructure and urban‑development activities. Reporting to the Head of Legal, the role combines contract management, corporate governance, regulatory monitoring and team leadership.
Key responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate legal documents including contracts, term sheets, lease agreements, procurement and financing agreements.
- Identify potential risk factors in new and existing transactions and propose mitigation measures.
- Provide litigation support and assist the Head of Legal with court processes.
- Prepare board materials, take minutes, draft resolutions and ensure timely follow‑up on board action points.
- Maintain statutory filings, company records and central document storage in collaboration with the Head of Legal.
- Monitor Nigerian legislation, advise on its impact and support regulatory filings.
- Conduct periodic compliance audits, remediate gaps and deliver training on anti‑bribery, AML, conflicts of interest and related topics.
- Supervise, mentor and develop legal and compliance associates and manage departmental budget and resources.
Required profile
- Minimum 15 years of core legal experience, called to the Nigerian Bar.
- Strong commercial judgment with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication, report writing and documentation skills.
- Detail‑oriented, organized and capable of multitasking in a fast‑changing environment.
- High energy, result‑oriented and strong work ethic.
Required skills
- Real estate and property law expertise.
- Utilities (power, water) and infrastructure law knowledge.
- Corporate and commercial law transaction experience.
- Admission to the Nigerian Bar.
- Proficient IT skills.
