Legal and Compliance Associate

About the role

The Legal and Compliance Associate supports the Head of Legal & Compliance in delivering high-quality governance, legal and compliance services across the organization. The role involves conducting in-depth legal research, drafting and reviewing contracts, managing litigation matters and ensuring the company meets all regulatory obligations.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and report on developments in laws, regulations and case law that may affect the business.
• Provide preliminary interpretations of statutes, rulings and regulations to internal stakeholders.
• Identify and evaluate legal issues arising from contracts, cases or regulatory changes.
• Conduct comprehensive research on investment regulations, securities law and corporate governance.
• Draft legal memoranda, briefs and contracts under supervision.
• Summarize legal findings and complex documents for internal teams.
• Review contracts, agreements and pleadings for accuracy, compliance and risk.
• Highlight key clauses such as liability, obligations and rights.
• Maintain detailed records of document revisions.
• Stay informed on updates to industry-specific regulations, including SEC and NGX requirements.
• Assist in preparing and submitting regulatory filings and reports.
• Review internal policies for alignment with legal standards.
• Maintain statutory records and support board‑related activities.
• Organize legal files and databases, schedule meetings and record minutes.
