Lead Accountant

About the role

We are seeking a Lead Accountant to head our finance and accounting function in Port Harcourt. You will be responsible for delivering accurate financial statements, overseeing loan accounting, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee preparation of financial statements and management reports.
• Supervise general ledger activities and ensure proper account reconciliations.
• Manage loan accounting processes, including disbursements, repayments and interest recognition.
• Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory and internal reporting requirements.
• Monitor and reconcile income, customer repayments and other financial transactions.
• Prepare budgets, forecasts and variance analysis.
• Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff.
• Liaise with external auditors and relevant stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and cost efficiency.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Professional certification such as ICAN, ACCA or equivalent is an advantage.
• 4–6 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in financial services.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with loan accounting and portfolio management.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and organizational abilities.
• High level of accuracy, integrity and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency in accounting software.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
