Junior Legal & Compliance Officer

About the role

CredPal, a financial technology company offering credit cards and investment solutions, is looking for a Junior Legal and Compliance Officer (full time, hybrid) to help its Buy Now Pay Later, consumer credit and investment operations comply with financial services laws such as those of the CBN and SEC, AML/CFT rules, data protection requirements and internal policies. The role covers contract management, regulatory filings, compliance monitoring, AML/KYC support, data protection oversight and internal policy administration.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and format merchant agreements, customer credit/BNPL agreements, data processing agreements, NDAs, vendor contracts and debt recovery agreements; maintain the contract repository and track renewals and terminations
• Support due diligence, pre-litigation matters and correspondence with external counsel
• Monitor compliance with consumer credit, AML/CTF, data protection, financial promotions and investor protection rules; prepare regulatory filings and maintain compliance registers
• Assist with internal compliance audits, risk assessments and policy reviews
• Support onboarding checks, KYC documentation review and SAR monitoring; maintain AML retention records
• Support data protection compliance, data processing records and DSAR responses
• Prepare internal compliance reports, assist with board documentation, maintain statutory registers and monitor policy acknowledgments

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B) or a related field
• 2-3 years' experience in financial services, fintech, consumer lending or investment company compliance
• Experience in policy development and implementation; strong audit and risk management skills
• Professional certifications (ACAMS, compliance or data protection) are advantageous but not mandatory

Required skills

• Understanding of financial services regulation, consumer credit/BNPL framework, basic AML/KYC principles and contract law
• Contract review and legal research, drafting and document review
• Attention to detail, confidentiality, organisation and communication
