Junior AI Software Engineer – Onsite in Ogba/Ikeja, Lagos

About the role

Our client is looking for a motivated Junior AI Software Engineer to join a growing technology team in Lagos. The role involves designing, developing, testing and deploying AI‑powered applications while collaborating closely with senior engineers and product teams. This position is ideal for candidates with a solid software engineering foundation and a passion for AI, machine learning and large language models.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in designing, developing and maintaining AI‑powered software applications.
• Build and integrate AI models (e.g., GPT, Gemini, Claude) into web and mobile applications.
• Develop APIs and backend services for AI solutions using FastAPI, Flask or Django.
• Support prompt engineering, retrieval‑augmented generation and AI workflow optimisation.
• Collect, clean and preprocess datasets for model training and evaluation.
• Test, debug and optimise AI applications for performance and scalability.
• Monitor deployed AI systems and improve model performance based on user feedback.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers and engineers to deliver AI‑enabled features.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI, Data Science or a related field.
• 1–3 years of software engineering or AI development experience (internships considered).
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Curious mindset with a willingness to learn new technologies.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• JavaScript or TypeScript (advantage).
• TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit‑learn and Hugging Face Transformers.
• REST API development with FastAPI, Flask or Django.
• SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Git version control.
• Basic Docker and cloud platform knowledge (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
• Experience with OpenAI, Anthropic or Gemini APIs and frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, software testing and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
