Heavy-Duty Mechanic – Diesel Trucks & Equipment

About the role

We are looking for a skilled Heavy‑Duty Mechanic to join our maintenance team in Port Harcourt. You will be responsible for keeping a fleet of diesel‑powered trucks, trailers and construction equipment running safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical faults on heavy‑duty trucks, trailers, buses and industrial machinery.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on engines, transmissions, differentials, axles, braking, suspension and steering systems.
• Diagnose and fix hydraulic, pneumatic and basic electrical issues using appropriate diagnostic tools.
• Carry out routine servicing such as oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication and fluid checks.
• Disassemble, repair or replace defective components and re‑assemble them to factory standards.
• Conduct pre‑ and post‑repair inspections to ensure safety and compliance with H&S procedures.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used and maintenance schedules.
• Collaborate with drivers and operators to identify recurring problems and recommend part replacements.

Required profile

• Minimum OND, Technical Certificate, Trade Test Certificate or equivalent in Mechanical/Automobile Engineering.
• At least 3 years (36 months) of experience as a Heavy‑Duty or Diesel Mechanic.
• Proven ability to work on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, steering, hydraulics and vehicle electrical systems.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
• Physically fit and able to work in a demanding workshop environment.
