Health Specialist (Social & Behavioral Change) – Polio, P-4 (Temporary)

About the role
The Health Specialist (Social & Behavioral Change) will lead the design, implementation and evaluation of SBC and social‑mobilisation activities that support Nigeria’s polio eradication plan. Working from the UNICEF office in Abuja, the specialist will collaborate with government, partners and communities to increase demand for polio vaccination and routine immunisation.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and adapt evidence‑based SBC strategies to interrupt poliovirus transmission.
- Design, implement and monitor social‑mobilisation interventions that generate demand for vaccination and address vaccine hesitancy.
- Provide technical assistance during polio outbreak responses and vaccination campaigns.
- Support sustained community engagement between vaccination rounds.
- Contribute to other health interventions as required and build partnerships with stakeholders.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree in public health, social sciences, communication or a related field.
- Significant experience in designing and managing SBC or social‑mobilisation programmes, preferably in immunisation or infectious disease contexts.
- Demonstrated ability to work with government agencies, NGOs and community groups.
- Strong analytical and monitoring‑evaluation skills.
