Group Tax Officer

About the role

The Finance Officer (Tax) supports the organization's tax compliance framework by ensuring accurate tax computations, timely statutory remittances, proper documentation and adherence to applicable tax regulations. The role minimizes tax risk exposure while ensuring full compliance with Nigerian tax laws and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review tax computations and schedules for VAT, Withholding Tax (WHT), PAYE, Company Income Tax (CIT), Tertiary Education Tax, Stamp Duties and other statutory levies.
• Ensure timely filing and remittance of statutory taxes, compute monthly, quarterly and annual liabilities and reconcile discrepancies.
• Maintain tax records, ledgers and supporting documentation, and file tax returns, receipts and payment evidence physically and electronically.
• Reconcile tax accounts in the general ledger, prepare periodic tax reports for management and support tax provisions and disclosures in financial statements.
• Support tax audits and investigations, respond to queries from tax authorities such as FIRS and state revenue services, and stay up to date with regulatory updates and circulars.
• Assist the Group Tax Manager in tax planning, monitor changes in tax legislation and advise on compliance for new transactions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• 2-4 years of experience in tax compliance, preferably in a corporate or financial services environment.
• Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA or CITN) or progress toward it is an added advantage.
• Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax laws and regulations.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables and reconciliations.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
• Good documentation and record-keeping, and effective communication and stakeholder management.
• Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tax obligations at once.
