GESI Director, Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) Nigeria

About the role

Prosper Global Nigeria is seeking an experienced GESI Director to lead the Gender, Safeguarding and Inclusion work for its Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) portfolio, a three-year USD 45 million Mastercard Foundation investment. The position is based in Abuja and is contingent on donor funding and approval of the candidate. The Director ensures that program activities deliver positive outcomes for men, women, girls and boys of different ages and builds the capacity of team members and partners to integrate a GESI perspective.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for GESI, youth empowerment and safeguarding across the CSA portfolio, including developing and implementing a portfolio-wide GESI and Safeguarding Strategy aligned with donor priorities and national frameworks.
• Ensure gender-transformative, youth-centered, disability-inclusive and safeguarding approaches are embedded from design through implementation, learning and closeout.
• Serve as principal advisor to portfolio leadership and partners on GESI, youth inclusion, protection and safeguarding risks and opportunities.
• Lead safeguarding considerations in program design, partnership agreements, participant engagement and monitoring, and identify, assess and mitigate related risks.
• Establish portfolio-wide standards, tools, indicators and accountability mechanisms to track GESI and safeguarding outcomes.
• Conduct a gender analysis in the first year, in line with Mercy Corps best practices and Mastercard Foundation requirements, and promote inclusive initiatives under the donor's gender policy.
• Develop targeted GESI capacity-building interventions for staff and support training for project participants, while monitoring field activities and coaching staff.
• Document processes and achievements, and represent the portfolio externally on GESI and safeguarding matters with donors, government and private sector actors.
