General Manager, Operations

About the role

The General Manager, Operations leads end‑to‑end downstream activities for a major indigenous energy company in Nigeria, aligning operational strategy with trading goals and ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, and reliable product supply.

Key responsibilities

• Set overall operational objectives, priorities and performance expectations while supervising senior operations managers.
• Oversee marine terminal (SPM & CBM) operations to ensure safe vessel berthing, optimise turnaround and minimise demurrage.
• Manage terminal and depot operations, including inventory control, loading efficiency and tank integrity.
• Direct logistics and distribution planning to achieve delivery KPIs such as OTIF, turnaround time and cost‑per‑litre.
• Ensure strict compliance with HSE standards and regulatory bodies (MDPRA, NPA, SON, etc.).
• Lead preparation and implementation of annual CAPEX and OPEX budgets and provide performance reporting.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Logistics, Business Administration or related field; Master’s/MBA advantageous.
• Minimum 20 years of relevant industry experience with at least 7 years in senior operational leadership.
• Extensive downstream petroleum experience covering terminals, marine operations, logistics and retail.
• Proven ability to manage large multidisciplinary teams and high‑value petroleum assets.
• Experience interacting with regulators such as NMDPRA, NPA, SON and fire services.
