Generator/Plant Technician

About the role

The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja is looking for a Generator/Plant Technician to ensure continuous, reliable power for its upcoming 500‑bed hospital. The role involves operating, maintaining and troubleshooting generators and related plant equipment, adhering to safety standards and supporting emergency power needs.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor generators, record performance data, and manage start‑stop cycles during outages.
• Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, belt adjustments, and keep the generator room clean and organized.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, or fuel‑related faults; coordinate major repairs with external technicians.
• Respond promptly to power outages, activate backup generators, monitor load levels and participate in emergency drills.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, conduct risk assessments, maintain safety records and provide training on generator safety.
• Prepare regular reports on performance, fuel consumption, maintenance activities and incident logs.

Required profile

• Minimum HND/Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• At least 3 years of experience operating and maintaining generators or power plants, preferably in a healthcare or industrial environment.
• Relevant training or certification in generator operations and maintenance is highly desirable.
