Freelance Accountant

About the role

Capimore Nigeria is hiring a freelance accountant based in Lagos (Marina) to handle the company's financial records, reporting, bank and cash management, statutory compliance, budget control, payroll and internal controls. The role is assessed against clear KPIs covering accuracy, timeliness and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate financial records, process journal entries and prepare monthly financial reports within agreed timelines.
• Manage accounts receivable and payable, follow up on overdue balances and reconcile bank accounts weekly.
• Ensure compliance with statutory obligations such as PAYE, VAT, withholding tax, company income tax, pension, NSITF and HMO, and prepare statutory schedules.
• Monitor actual expenditure against budgets, prepare monthly budget variance reports and support cost control.
• Review and approve payments, flag suspicious transactions and recommend improvements to internal controls.
• Prepare monthly payroll, calculate statutory deductions, commissions and bonuses, issue payslips and keep payroll records.
• Maintain accounting records in approved accounting software, back up data and support automation initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• Professional accounting qualification or progress towards one (ACA, ACCA, ICAN, ANAN, CIMA or equivalent) is desirable.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar accounting role.
• Knowledge of Nigerian tax regulations and statutory compliance.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of financial reporting and accounting principles.
• Excellent Microsoft Excel and accounting software skills.
• Analytical, problem-solving and attention to detail.
