Founding Security Engineer (Part-Time)

About the role

This is a founding, part‑time position responsible for building the entire security program of a safety‑technology startup. Security is the core product, and the role reports directly to the CEO/CTO with authority over product and infrastructure architecture.

Key responsibilities

• Act as in‑house ethical hacker, performing penetration testing and red‑team exercises across web, mobile, APIs, cloud, hardware and CI/CD pipelines.
• Identify, prioritize and remediate vulnerabilities covering OWASP Top 10, API security, authentication flaws and AI‑specific risks such as prompt injection and model abuse.
• Secure the cloud estate (AWS/Azure/GCP) including IAM, network architecture, Kubernetes, secrets management and disaster‑recovery controls.
• Embed security into the software development lifecycle through threat modeling, secure code reviews, SAST/DAST/SCA and automated CI/CD checks.
• Establish compliance programmes (ISO 27001, SOC 2), build an ISMS, risk register and incident‑response processes, and raise security awareness across the team.

Required profile

• 5+ years of hands‑on experience in penetration testing, application, cloud or offensive security with depth in multiple areas.
• Proven ability to design and run security programmes from scratch in a fast‑moving startup environment.
• Experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) and modern authentication/authorization standards.
• Track record of supporting security audits and guiding organisations toward ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification.
