Food Security Field Officer – Zamfara

About the role

Under the supervision of the Cash Distribution Specialist, the Food Security Field Officer will lead climate‑resilient agricultural activities in Zamfara, Nigeria. The role focuses on empowering female‑headed households and families with malnourished children by establishing micro‑gardens that supply nutritious ingredients for locally produced “Tom Brown” food supplements.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and register eligible households, prioritising female‑headed families with MAM/SAM children.
• Coordinate one‑time distribution of climate‑resilient vegetable seeds and manual irrigation kits, ensuring transparency and safety.
• Deliver technical training on small‑scale sustainable gardening, including soil preparation, organic composting and pest management.
• Conduct regular follow‑up visits to provide on‑site mentorship and monitor correct use of irrigation tools.
• Collaborate with Mother‑to‑Mother and Father‑to‑Father support groups and the Nutrition Team to align garden produce with “Tom Brown” ingredient needs.
• Maintain accurate records of distributions, training attendance and garden progress; report risks such as pest outbreaks, security issues or climate impacts.

Required profile

• BSc or HND in Agriculture, Agronomy or a related field.
• Minimum three years of field experience in food‑security or agricultural projects, preferably in emergency or recovery contexts in Northern Nigeria.
• Fluency in Hausa and English.
• Willingness to work in volatile security environments (e.g., Anka, Gusau, Maru).
