Director of Nursing Service

About the role

The Director of Nursing Service will provide strategic, professional and operational leadership for nursing services across the hospital. This senior position is responsible for establishing nursing systems, ensuring high‑quality bedside care and supporting all clinical areas as the facility becomes fully operational.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement nursing policies, SOPs, care protocols and documentation standards.
• Plan nursing manpower, coordinate recruitment, orientation, deployment, duty rosters and performance management.
• Maintain appropriate nurse‑to‑patient ratios, shift handovers and patient safety initiatives.
• Monitor nursing practice through ward rounds, audits, incident reviews and quality‑improvement projects.
• Ensure accurate, confidential nursing records and effective use of the hospital information system.
• Identify equipment, medicines and consumable needs and oversee their safe use.
• Lead induction, competency assessment, continuing education and mentorship programmes.
• Collaborate with senior hospital leaders to ensure coordinated patient care.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Nursing Science or equivalent recognised qualification.
• Registered Nurse with a current practising licence from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
• Minimum five years post‑qualification nursing experience, including at least two years in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Sound knowledge of clinical governance, patient safety, infection prevention and nursing quality assurance.
• Ability to establish nursing systems and lead teams in a newly commissioned hospital.
• Willingness to reside in or relocate within reasonable commuting distance of Isuofia.
