About the role
Our client is seeking an accomplished and highly respected Director – Human Resources to join its Board of Directors in a non‑executive capacity. The successful candidate will provide independent oversight, strategic guidance, and governance on the organization’s human capital agenda, ensuring people strategies support long‑term growth, effective corporate governance, and sustainable value creation.
Key responsibilities
- Provide independent oversight and strategic direction on all human capital and organisational development matters, aligning people strategies with the company’s vision and governance framework.
- Oversee executive remuneration frameworks to ensure competitiveness, fairness, transparency and alignment with performance.
- Lead succession planning for the Board, senior leadership and critical functions, and guide leadership development programmes.
- Review talent acquisition, employee engagement, workforce planning and retention strategies, and monitor organisational design initiatives that improve effectiveness.
- Champion a high‑performance culture founded on integrity, accountability, innovation, collaboration and inclusion, including diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
- Manage people‑related risks, ensuring compliance with Nigerian labour legislation, corporate governance codes and employment regulations.
- Attend scheduled Board and Committee meetings, contribute to strategic discussions, and maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and fiduciary responsibility.
Required profile
- Minimum 20 years of progressive Human Resources leadership experience, including executive and board‑level exposure.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, Management, Psychology, Law or a related discipline.
- Professional HR certification (e.g., CIPM, SHRM‑SCP, SPHR, HRCI, CIPD) required; corporate governance certification is an advantage.
- Previous Board or Board Committee experience highly desirable.
- Strong expertise in executive remuneration, succession planning, talent management, organisational design and corporate governance.
- Demonstrated success leading HR transformation, cultural change and organisational effectiveness in large or complex organisations.
- In‑depth knowledge of Nigerian labour legislation, corporate governance practices and employment regulations.
