Country Head - Cross Border Payments / FX (Nigeria)

About the role

A leading OTC desk for stable coins and digital assets, with experience across global equities, futures, FX and digital asset markets, is looking for an experienced Country Head to build its payments business in Nigeria. The role suits a senior executive who has previously led a payments or treasury function at a Tier 1 financial institution. The person will build the business from the ground up, covering regulatory engagement, infrastructure, liquidity and commercial execution.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the establishment and growth of the payments business in Nigeria and define the market entry and expansion strategy
• Develop scalable operating models for transaction growth and new products
• Act as main contact with regulators such as the Central Bank of Nigeria and lead licensing efforts (e.g. IMTO or alternative frameworks)
• Build relationships with local and international banks, payment service providers and liquidity partners, ensuring efficient settlement and liquidity management
• Build a network of FX counterparties and oversee treasury operations, including liquidity sourcing, pricing and risk management
• Design operational infrastructure, processes and controls, and ensure risk management across payments, FX and compliance
• Oversee transaction processing, reconciliation and reporting

Required profile

• Minimum 7-10 years of senior executive experience in payments, fintech, banking or treasury, ideally at a Tier 1 institution
• Proven track record of building or scaling financial services businesses
• Deep understanding of the Nigerian regulatory environment and payments landscape
• Strong relationships in the FX market with institutional counterparties and liquidity providers
• Experience with cross-border payments, FX markets and digital assets such as stablecoins
• Ability to engage regulators, banks and senior stakeholders and to work in a build-from-scratch environment
