Country Director – Nigeria

About the role

The Country Director leads Terre des hommes’ operations across Nigeria, based in Abuja with regular travel to Benue and Borno states. Reporting to the Africa Regional Director, the role ensures strategic vision, operational leadership and security compliance in a complex humanitarian environment.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure proper functioning of national operations and represent the Foundation legally in Nigeria.
• Develop and implement the Delegation’s Strategic Plan and Annual Operational Plans, including budgeting, HR and logistics.
• Oversee internal and external communications and maintain accountability to beneficiaries, staff and donors.
• Supervise all staff, ensure team security, and manage country‑level security policies and contingency plans.
• Implement an operational risk‑management system and ensure compliance with security and code‑of‑conduct standards.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum 5 years senior management experience in an NGO, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Proven track record in developing strategies, securing institutional funding and managing large‑scale projects.
• Extensive experience managing expatriate teams and strong leadership abilities.
• Knowledge of child protection, fluency in English (local languages required), French considered an asset.

• Swiss fixed‑term contract (24 months) with a gross monthly salary of 5 500–6 500 CHF (13.36 months).
