Accountant - Oil & Gas

About the role

MML Consulting is hiring a full-time Accountant based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The role covers bookkeeping, financial control, statutory tax filing and oil and gas sector accounting, working closely with the Account Head.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate financial records, post daily transactions, journals, accruals, prepayments and fixed-asset entries in the general ledger, and keep audit-ready source documents.
• Process vendor and contractor invoices after three-way matching, prepare payment runs, and raise customer invoices and credit notes while following up overdue balances.
• Perform monthly bank, cash, control-account and balance sheet reconciliations, and support monthly payroll and statutory deductions.
• Prepare schedules and trial balances for month-end and year-end close, support management reporting under IFRS, and assist external and tax audits.
• File and remit VAT, WHT, PAYE, pension, NSITF and ITF on time, and apply lawful tax planning to minimise exposure.
• Code and track costs by project, cost centre and contract, support joint venture cash calls and partner billing, and account for NGN/USD transactions and oil and gas levies.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• ICAN (ACA) certification is required; CITN, ACCA or ANAN is an advantage.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of professional accounting experience.
• Prior experience in the oil and gas industry (upstream, midstream, downstream or oilfield services) is required.
• Proven track record of statutory tax and compliance filings, and of supporting month-end close and external audits.

Required skills

• Proficiency in accounting software such as SAP, Oracle, Sage, QuickBooks or Microsoft Dynamics 365.
• Advanced MS Excel (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations).
• Sound knowledge of IFRS, double-entry bookkeeping, internal controls and Nigerian tax requirements.
• Understanding of oil and gas accounting concepts is an advantage.
