Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to own and evolve our transaction engine and dual‑wallet ledger. You will work at the heart of a fast‑moving fintech, ensuring that every balance is accurate and that partner integrations run smoothly.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the transaction engine, guaranteeing balance correctness even with duplicate or missing partner callbacks.
• Integrate crypto execution, NGN virtual accounts, payment rails, KYC verification and gift‑card fulfillment.
• Design robust webhooks with idempotency, retries and reconciliation mechanisms.
• Develop new roadmap systems such as a universal payment handle across crypto chains and bank rails, campaign and reward engines, and tier‑based transaction monitoring.
• Ensure production reliability through incident response, root‑cause analysis, safe deployments and rollback plans.
• Build and support admin console features when required.
• Implement security and compliance controls, including AML monitoring rules and secret management.

Required profile

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience, with at least 2 years operating production systems in a Nigerian fintech or payments company.
• Hands‑on experience being on‑call for critical money‑flow incidents.
• Strong communication habits: confirm receipt, give ETAs, flag risks early.
• Ability to work autonomously without a dedicated PM, QA or DevOps team.
