Legal Officer (Junior) – Lagos

About the role

Northwest Petroleum & Gas Company Limited, a leading downstream oil & gas firm in Nigeria, is seeking a diligent Junior Legal Officer to support its legal and regulatory functions in Lagos. The role offers exposure to corporate, litigation and compliance matters within a dynamic energy environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide internal advisory services on operational legal issues.
• Assist with dispute resolution, negotiations and corporate compliance.
• Prepare and maintain company-wide compliance check‑lists.
• Support corporate, litigation and regulatory tasks, including filing annual returns with the CAC, attending court proceedings and conducting legal searches.
• Liaise with external counsel to monitor pending litigation.
• Manage contract lifecycle: drafting, vetting, negotiating, filing and documentation.
• Perform other duties aligned with operational requirements.

Required profile

• Minimum B, BL degree with at least Second Class Upper Division.
• 3–5 years post‑call experience, including at least 3 years in a law firm.
• Oil & gas sector experience (2+ years) is an advantage.
• Strong business writing and drafting abilities.
• Experience engaging with government, maritime and local content agencies.
• Excellent relationship management and communication skills.
• High level of confidentiality and professionalism.
