Industrial Feasibility Consultant – Tom Brown Reformulation

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) seeks an experienced consultant to assess the industrial feasibility of reformulating Tom Brown, a traditional food product, for moderate acute malnutrition treatment in Northeast Nigeria. This short‑term assignment runs from May to June 2026 and focuses on defining realistic production pathways and cost structures.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and document industrial feasibility constraints for the reformulated product, including equipment, batch size, throughput, and quality control requirements.
• Map feasible production pathways (e.g., roasting, milling, blending, extrusion) and evaluate local versus larger‑scale manufacturing options.
• Assess 3–4 candidate reformulations against real‑world production limits.
• Estimate costs, capacity, bottlenecks, and investment needs for pilot testing through scale‑up.
• Highlight QA/QC infrastructure gaps and recommend evidence to collect during prototype production.

Required profile

• Proven experience in food‑process engineering, industrial production planning, or related consultancy work.
• Familiarity with nutrition‑focused product development and safety standards (e.g., aflatoxin risk, shelf stability).
• Ability to work independently and deliver concise, actionable reports within a two‑month timeframe.
