Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician – Mining

About the role

The Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician will ensure that all plant and mining heavy equipment remains in safe, operational condition. This role involves routine preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and coordination of spare‑part planning to minimise downtime.

Key responsibilities

• Perform emergency and scheduled repairs on a variety of heavy‑duty equipment, utilities, plants and vehicles following manufacturer guidelines.
• Carry out daily and periodic preventive maintenance to maximise equipment availability.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment during and after each job.
• Provide on‑the‑job training and performance assessments for junior technicians and helpers.
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times and report any accidents or near‑miss incidents.
• Diagnose issues in diesel engines, hydraulic systems and transmissions and implement corrective actions.
• Assist supervisors/engineers with spare‑part planning and ensure the right tools are available for each task.
• Suggest improvements to maintenance practices and ensure compliance with ISO regulations.

Required profile

• SSCE, National Diploma or equivalent trade certification in mechanical fitting or equipment maintenance.
• 3–10 years of experience maintaining heavy equipment and light‑mobile vehicles (LMV) in an industrial or mining environment.
• Valid driving licence.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
