Head of Security

About the role

A leading Nigerian electricity distribution company, serving customers across the Southern zone, is looking for a Head of Security. The role ensures strategic, value-adding security services, including protecting assets, employees and customers, acting promptly on energy theft and loss-reduction initiatives, and keeping company personnel and internal and external stakeholders safe.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, develop and manage the company's security strategy, including business continuity planning and strategic security management.
• Develop the security plan, operational procedures and security manual covering personal safety, visitor processing, access control and emergency response.
• Lead the development, implementation and compliance of security policies and best practices, and audit security regularly, following up on action plans.
• Protect staff, property and assets from theft, damage and unauthorized access, including securing areas with entry controls such as metal detectors.
• Handle executive security detail and support internal and external stakeholders.
• Review patrol reports, keep logs and reports, oversee guard training, inspect security posts at the head office and district offices, and appraise security beats in the field.
• Investigate theft and vandalism cases, receive and report complaints, and institute emergency response procedures.
• Work closely with the HSE department, drive safety initiatives and OHS compliance, and manage security teams to meet health and safety targets.
• Manage service level agreements with security service providers, maintain the MIS database and budget, and perform other duties assigned by the CHRO, MD or CEO.

Required profile

• HND/BSc in a related discipline; an MBA or Master's degree is an advantage.
• Minimum 14 years of experience in the armed forces or police, not below the rank of Captain or equivalent, including 5 years in a corporate environment and senior management role.
• Relevant professional security certification.

Required skills

• Knowledge of security standards, office security, identity management and access control.
• Strong investigative skills and behavioural psychology applied to threat assessment and incident investigation.
• Leadership of security teams, clear communication and calm handling of emergencies.
