Hardware Engineer – Solar Lighting Prototyping

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Hardware Engineer to lead the rapid prototyping of solar lighting solutions in Lagos. You will work closely with our London‑based supervising engineer to turn concepts into field‑tested hardware while building a local R&D capability.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, test and iterate solar lighting hardware including drivers, battery integration, enclosures and mounting systems.
• Develop and execute durability and reliability tests for outdoor conditions (heat, moisture, IP ratings, connector and casing endurance).
• Manage cost and manufacturability by designing within BOM targets and sourcing components for local or semi‑local assembly.
• Maintain rigorous documentation: BOMs, design files, test logs and failure analyses.
• Translate design direction from the remote supervising engineer into functional prototypes.
• Set up and maintain an in‑house prototyping workspace, including 3D printing capability.
• Create and keep clean parts libraries for electronic components and 3D models.
• Assist in recruiting and mentoring additional R&D staff as the team grows.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in hardware prototyping or similar role.
