Sonologist – Diagnostic Ultrasound Specialist

About the role

The Sonologist will perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations across a range of body systems, delivering accurate and timely reports to support patient care. Working within a multidisciplinary diagnostic centre, the role combines hands‑on imaging with collaboration with radiologists and clinical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct diagnostic procedures using sonographic equipment, including abdominal, obstetric, prostate, cardiac and vascular studies.
• Obtain and record patient histories, identify normal and abnormal findings, and validate results.
• Prepare and deliver clear progress reports to radiologists and respond to clinical inquiries.
• Assist in daily operations of the sonography service and ensure smooth workflow.
• Manage preventive maintenance programmes for ultrasound machines and ensure equipment accuracy.
• Maintain accurate facility reports, database records and logs.
• Address operational complaints and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
• Perform any other duties appropriate to the role as assigned.

Required profile

• MBBS degree with a postgraduate diploma in Sonology.
• Minimum five years of professional experience, including at least three years of hands‑on ultrasound practice.
• Registered member of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and relevant professional bodies.
• Strong analytical, judgment and decision‑making abilities.
• Excellent communication and patient service skills.
• Good visual acuity and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Operation of ultrasound/sonography equipment.
• Preventive maintenance of ultrasound machines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
