Senior Backend Engineer (Java)

About the role

Engineering at Moniepoint is a customer‑focused community building the core financial platform for millions of users across Africa. The team works with modern infrastructure tools such as Kubernetes and Docker to deliver high‑performance, data‑driven services.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with product, design and QA teams to design and deliver high‑impact backend features.
• Architect, develop and maintain scalable Java micro‑services using Spring Boot.
• Write clean, testable code and ensure reliability through comprehensive unit and integration tests.
• Integrate third‑party APIs with robust error handling and graceful degradation.
• Continuously improve system performance, automation and refactoring.
• Diagnose and resolve complex issues across the stack and contribute to code reviews and architecture discussions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, primarily on backend systems.
• Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot, with experience building RESTful APIs and distributed services.
• Proficiency with relational databases, ORM frameworks (e.g., Hibernate) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with Agile development practices.
