Secondary School Teacher – English & Government

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated secondary school teacher to deliver English Language, Literature and Government lessons to Senior Secondary (SS 1‑3) students in Lagos. The role involves preparing weekly lesson plans aligned with the NERDC curriculum and guiding students toward high performance in national examinations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare detailed weekly lesson plans and comprehensive notes for SS 1‑3.
• Deliver interactive lessons covering English lexis, structure, orals, essay writing, comprehension, and literature analysis.
• Teach Government concepts, including political systems, constitutional development, and civic structures.
• Coach SS 3 students for WAEC, NECO and UTME exams using past‑question drills and mock assessments.
• Administer and mark weekly tests, assignments, mid‑terms and terminal exams, providing feedback.
• Maintain classroom discipline and a serious academic atmosphere.
• Serve as a form teacher when assigned, track attendance and student well‑being.
• Participate in open days, parent‑teacher meetings and extracurricular activities.

Required profile

• Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) with specialization in English, Literature or Political Science/Government.
• Bachelor’s degree (B.Ed., B.A. or B.Sc.) in a related humanities discipline (preferred).
• Registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is an advantage.
• 1–3 years of teaching experience in a reputable private secondary school, with proven WAEC/NECO results.

Required skills

• Excellent command of written and spoken English.
• Ability to analyse and break down complex literary texts.
