Land Surveyor / Setting-Out Engineer

About the role

The Land Surveyor / Setting‑Out Engineer will lead all site‑grid establishment, benchmark creation and precision setting‑out activities for multi‑storey reinforced concrete projects. Working closely with the Construction Manager, structural engineer and Fit‑Out Manager, you will ensure that every control point, column grid and slab datum is accurately positioned and documented throughout construction.

Key responsibilities

• Establish site grid and permanent benchmark system before construction starts and obtain sign‑off from the Construction Manager and structural engineer.
• Set out block positions and column grid positions with survey accuracy before each raft pour.
• Provide level control for floor slabs, establish floor datum marks on columns, and verify slab thickness after striking.
• Set out internal partition positions on each floor as required by the Fit‑Out Manager.
• Check and record as‑built column and slab positions after construction and produce as‑built survey records.
• Maintain the site survey register, including all setting‑out records, checks and as‑built measurements.
• Provide survey support to Site Engineers during reinforcement inspections.
• Calibrate and maintain all survey instruments on site.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Surveying or Civil Engineering.
• Registration with SURCON (Surveyors Council of Nigeria) preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of land surveying experience on major construction projects.
• Proven experience in setting out multi‑storey reinforced concrete structures.

Required skills

• Operation of total station equipment.
• Use of digital level instruments.
• GPS surveying and data collection.
• Calibration and maintenance of survey instruments.
