Kubernetes Engineer – DigitalOcean Cloud Operations

About the role

We are looking for a skilled Kubernetes Engineer to manage and operate DigitalOcean Kubernetes Service (DOKS) clusters across development, staging and production environments for Mkobo Microfinance Bank. The role focuses on cloud infrastructure, automation, and security to support our digital banking platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and operate DOKS clusters across dev, staging, and production.
• Build and maintain Helm charts and Kubernetes manifests for application deployments.
• Configure DigitalOcean Load Balancers, VPCs, and Ingress controllers (Nginx/Traefik) for cluster networking.
• Manage node pools, autoscaling, and optimize cluster resources.
• Implement GitOps workflows using ArgoCD or Flux for declarative deployments.
• Apply Kubernetes security best practices: RBAC, NetworkPolicies, Pod Security Standards, and admission controllers such as OPA/Gatekeeper or Kyverno.
• Secure container images with vulnerability scanning (Trivy, Grype) and image signing (Cosign), enforcing minimal and hardened base images.
• Manage secrets securely using Vault, Sealed Secrets, or External Secrets Operator.
• Configure DigitalOcean Cloud Firewalls and VPC network policies for defense-in-depth.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in a relevant field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar Kubernetes engineering role.
