Internal Control Officer

About the role

The Internal Control Officer will oversee the company’s internal control framework, ensuring that operational, financial and payment processes comply with policies and regulations. This role works closely with Finance, Operations and Risk teams to safeguard the organization against control weaknesses and fraud.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and evaluate internal controls across operational, financial, payment and administrative processes.
• Conduct routine internal control reviews, audits and risk assessments to identify gaps and potential fraud risks.
• Review financial transactions and payment processes for accuracy, authorization and procedural compliance.
• Develop, implement and recommend improvements to internal control policies and standard operating procedures.
• Investigate control breaches, policy violations and operational irregularities, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions.
• Collaborate with Finance, Operations, Customer Support, Risk and Compliance to promote effective risk management.
• Prepare periodic internal control reports, audit findings and recommendations for management.
• Support staff awareness of internal control policies and risk management best practices.

Required profile

• Minimum HND in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management or related field.
• 3‑5 years of experience in internal control, audit, risk, compliance, finance operations or payments.
• Professional certification such as ACA, ACCA, CIA, CISA or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of internal controls, reconciliations, process testing and exception reporting.
• Excellent analytical abilities with attention to detail.
• Strong written reporting and stakeholder engagement skills.
