Head of Strategy

About the role

The Head of Strategy will lead strategic development across major accounts and new business pitches, turning insights into compelling narratives. Reporting to senior leadership, this role shapes the agency’s point of view on sector shifts across Africa and beyond.

Key responsibilities

• Lead strategic development on all major accounts and new business pitches, from insight through to narrative architecture.
• Build and manage a strategy team of two or more strategists, setting workflow, quality standards and development plans.
• Translate commercial objectives, sector context and market reality into authentic positioning.
• Own the agency’s perspective on major sector shifts in mining, energy, financial services, infrastructure and consumer markets across Africa and internationally.
• Set and enforce strategic rigor across the agency, prioritising qualitative reasoning and market‑grounded arguments.
• Review and sharpen strategic documents produced by account teams before client delivery.

Required profile

• Proven experience in strategy, planning or senior communications with a strong strategic component, preferably across agency and financial services, energy or infrastructure.
• Demonstrated ability to build positioning and narrative frameworks that withstand scrutiny from sophisticated senior clients.
• Experience managing or mentoring a team, with a clear methodology for teaching and quality‑controlling strategic thinking.
• Comfort working across sectors such as financial and investor communications, critical infrastructure, corporate reputation and consumer.
• Strong research and synthesis instincts, able to construct arguments from real market conditions.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication, confident in challenging senior stakeholders including the CEO.
• Mindset focused on preventing generic, AI‑sounding work and ensuring world‑class strategic output.
