Cultural Research Fellow (6‑Month Fellowship)

About the role
The Cultural Research Fellowship is aimed at emerging researchers, historians, or anthropologists who are passionate about documenting intangible heritage such as oral traditions, local crafts, rituals and folk art. Fellows will work with Ancestra’s Living Archives and the Threads of Memory Initiative, carrying out original field research and producing creative documentation that enriches the digital archive.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct interviews with community members, collect oral histories, and document cultural practices through notes, audio recordings, and photographs.
- Collaborate closely with local communities and cultural institutions to ensure respectful and accurate representation.
- Prepare written reports and visual materials for inclusion in Ancestra’s digital archives.
- Present findings in a public report or an exhibition piece that showcases the collected heritage.
Required profile
- Background in Anthropology, Ethnography, or Cultural Studies.
- Strong writing, research, and photography abilities.
- Ability to work respectfully with diverse communities.
- Fluency in English; additional languages are an asset.
