About the role

The Deputy Vice Chancellor/Provost serves as the Chief Academic Officer of the American University of Nigeria, reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor/President. This senior executive provides strategic leadership for all academic affairs, ensuring alignment with the university’s mission, American‑style educational model, and institutional priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the planning, development, review, and continuous improvement of academic programs and curricula across all faculties.
• Oversee faculty governance, recruitment, promotion, compensation, and professional development to sustain a high‑performing academic workforce.
• Provide strategic direction for research, scholarship, and innovation, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and external grant acquisition.
• Ensure academic quality, accreditation, and compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
• Manage the academic division’s budget, monitor expenditures, and align resources with long‑term strategic goals.
• Represent the university in national and international academic, professional, and stakeholder forums to enhance its reputation and partnerships.
