Backend Engineering Team Lead

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Engineering Team Lead to drive the design and delivery of our loan origination, compliance and pricing platforms. You will shape systems that enable millions of first‑time borrowers across Africa to access affordable credit.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of backend engineers on greenfield and legacy projects, owning the full software lifecycle from design to production and decommissioning.
• Define and enforce architectural direction for event‑driven, micro‑service solutions built on Azure Service Bus.
• Partner with product managers to plan road‑maps, prioritize features and ensure alignment with business goals.
• Champion a DevOps culture by implementing infrastructure‑as‑code, observability, automated testing and continuous delivery pipelines.
• Mentor and grow engineers, fostering a servant‑leadership style that emphasizes coaching and empowerment.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading backend engineering teams in a fast‑moving, high‑scale environment.
• Strong understanding of cloud‑native architectures and event‑driven systems.
• Ability to translate product vision into technical solutions while maintaining high quality and reliability.

• C# / .NET
• Microsoft Azure (including Service Bus)
• Micro‑service design and event‑driven architecture
• DevOps practices: infrastructure as code, CI/CD, automated testing
• Observability and monitoring tools
